Pushing People's Buttons

I was in FL last week when Beth took Dayton to the "50 Cents Tuesday" showing of Toy Story 3.  Cameron didn't want to go and so stayed behind to read a book.

This morning I decided to propose going (again) so I could see it.  I thought maybe if I went, Cameron would give in and join me.  The conversation went like this:

Me: "Hey Cameron...wanna go to see Toy Story 3 with me?"

Cameron:  "I have no interest in seeing that movie."

Me: "You're just afraid you're going to cry."

Cameron:  "I'm going to hit you."

We ended up not going.  Hee-hee...at least I figured out Cameron's button...and pushed it!

A Great Week

My trip to Florida last week went really well.  I enjoyed three full days with my parents and also had visits with both my sisters and two nieces and two of their kids too.  When kids I knew as babies have kids, I guess that means something dramatic about my age but I'm not quite sure what.  They look pretty good in this pic.  Dad has a list of ailments but is hanging in there at nearly age 83.

Mom wanted me to be sure to take a pic of her Grandma King who was 80 in the photo below back in the 1940s.  It was interesting to hear my folks retell some stories that go decades back.  I doubt I'll be able to remember the stories but I hope I can.

Beth did the carving but Dayton hopped around and jabbered about the whole fantastical experience of a pumpkin-carving.  He didn't remember ever seeing this done in person.  I thought he was going to do it, but it was a thick pumpkin and the cutting was a bit challenging, I guess.

Family & Florida

There are few treats that we enjoy more than visiting with our family since we rarely see most of them very often.  Early on this trip we were blessed to spend several days in El Paso to visit with Beth's brother and his family.

Tomorrow (Monday) I (Alan) am flying alone to visit my parents in central Florida (DeLand).  I got to see them last year for a couple days so it has only been a little of a year since I've seen them last.  In these golden years for them, the visits are always a blessing.  Dad's health has been deteriorating for a few years now and he's slowing down a lot more now.  Praise God for a relatively inexpensive round trip ticket just under $230.

We appreciate your prayers for my travel and family visit and for Beth and the boys as she doesn't normally drive here in Dallas.  I should be arriving back here by Friday evening.

After this week, we should only have two more weeks of temporary residence in Dallas.  Our co-workers who will caravan with us in to Mexico will be driving to the border from Michigan on November 3rd.  We still plan to cross together on the 6th.

Texas State Fair 2010

Thanks to a generous gift from friends, we were able to take the family over to see the Texas State Fair today.  We've never been to the state fair of Texas before so it was a great first-time experience.  The jumping dogs and the trained birds were the best of the shows we enjoyed.
